How to Play International Draughts

International Draughts is the 10×10 tournament standard played in many countries. Compared to 8×8 checkers, the larger board increases strategic depth, while flying kings and mandatory longest-capture rules create sharp tactical moments. Men may capture both forward and backward, and multi-captures are common.

Objective

Win by capturing all opponent pieces or leaving them with no legal moves. Captures are mandatory, and if multiple captures are available you must choose a sequence that captures the maximum number of pieces.

Setup

International Draughts is played on a 10×10 board using only the dark squares. Each player starts with 20 men placed on the dark squares of the four rows closest to them.

Gameplay

Men move diagonally forward one square to an adjacent empty dark square. Captures are made by jumping diagonally over an adjacent opponent piece to an empty square beyond, removing the jumped piece. Men may capture both forward and backward. Multiple captures must be continued as long as additional captures are available. When a man reaches the farthest row, it becomes a King. Kings are flying: they move diagonally any number of empty squares, and when capturing they jump over an opponent piece and may land on any empty square beyond it on the same diagonal, continuing to capture if possible.

Winning

You win by capturing all opponent pieces or blocking them so they have no legal moves.
